Good news for the WEC Fans! The WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles is going to defend his title for the first time in WEC 47 against the top challenger Dominick Cruz. The event is scheduled in March 6th 2010 and MMASpark has learned from the sources that both fighters have agreed to contest each other in the yet-to-be-announced “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz” in Columbus, Ohio. The WEC General Manager Reed Harris has also hinted the possibility of such a match in his recent interview. As the name suggests, these two fighters will headline the event the official declaration from the organization will be done soon.

Bowles shocked the WEC world when he grabbed a first round victory over the former Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres at WEC 42. The Georgian fighter had been sidelined since then to nurse his broken hand; an injury he suffered during the fight. His opponent Cruz earned the title shot in a one sided match where he unanimously defeated fellow contender Joseph Benavidez on the same event. That was fourth consecutive victory for Cruz in the organization and he is expected to do wonders in the upcoming championship bout as well. The only loss he suffered was against former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber.
