Dream.15 Fight set for July 2010
DREAM.15 has been announced by the DREAM Executive producer Keiichi Sasahara. The headline lineup of the bout will be the match between the top lightweight Gesias ‘JZ’ Cavalcante against Katsunori Kikuno and Melvin Manhoef vs Tatsuya Mizuno. This four-man, light heavyweight tournament was booked along with the most awaited lightweight title match between Shinya Aoki and Tatsuya Kawajiri, dubbed ‘A fated Rivalry Bout Realized’.
The Brazilian, 155 pounds Cavalcante with a record of 14 wins and 3 losses is yet to pick up a win in the DREAM ring. He was one of the best lightweights in the world although he suffered from a knee injury in 2006, this didn’t deter his determination to fight despite suffering losses to Shinya Aoki and Tatsuya Kawajiri.
Kikuno is a practitioner of traditional martial arts and is currently the DEEP lightweight champion. He started his training when he was in high school and joined several tournaments since then. It was in 2004 when he joined Tsuyoshi Kohsaka’s “A-Square MMA” team and began his professional career. His own style of fighting led him to getting the DEEP title and giving his opponent a scare. This DREAM banner fighter has become one of the most popular fighters in MMA.
The 6’1”, 214 pounds with 7-5-0 record, U-File camp member Tatsuya Mizuno has been preparing for the big fight with Manhoef. Best known as a heavy bag in DREAM.1, let’s see how he would turn his opponent into a heavy bag during their fight.
The 5’8”, 185 pounds Melvin Manhoef ‘No Mercy’ is both a Dutch-Surinamese Muay Thai kickboxer and MMA of Mike’s Gym from Netherlands known for his aggressive fighting style and knockout power. He started with his boxing training at 18 and entered the cage rage promotion in 2004. He won over Kazushi Sakuraba at DREAM.4 enabling him to advance to the semifinal round of the DREAM middleweight Grand Prix.
If this wasn’t exciting enough, former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi will be joining the fight but his opponent has not yet been decided. In an interview, Gegard said that he hoped to have a rematch with “King Mo” at dream.15
Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem will also participate on the card but an opponent has not been found and five or six more fights are yet to be announced in the forthcoming days. Overeem expressed his desire to fight Fedor Emelianenko either in Dream or Strikeforce.
