Now that you are well on your way to learning the martial arts techniques of MMA, it is important to start to dress in the right way. This can be important and fun if you support anyone in particular or you following a team or your gym has a logo or outfit. It gives you a sense of belonging and lets you feel that you have finally arrived.
Also, wearing the right clothes gives you a sense of confidence. After all, you have worked and sweated and trained to get to the level you are at, so why not show it off by wearing the right gear? It is not easy learning MMA and achieving any sort of level because it is such a tough sport to get into. There are many different techniques and levels to learn and it can be extremely hard work. Wearing the right clothes lets everyone see that you have achieved a certain level of training and fitness.
What you wear to the gym and what you wear in the gym will be different. In the ring itself, you want to wear comfortable clothing which is easy to move in, strong and lets your body breathe. MMA is a very strenuous sport which can take its toll on your clothing as well as on you. You will need something that you can throw in to the washing machine when you get home and that you can wash many, many times.
The shorts you choose can be very important too. They must let you have enough room for movement without restriction. In MMA there are many kicks and lungs and sweeps. You need to be confident that your shorts will not let you down by ripping or tearing during training, or worse, during a match. Some of this gear can be extremely expensive so make sure that you know you are buying something which will last.
Match gear is more fancy with lots of logos and bright colors. It is very important that you feel confident and strong and that you stand out from your opponents. Usually people have T-shirts and shorts and hats. If someone is too large built then they may prefer tank-tops because a tee shirt can be too restricting.
In public, many MMA people wear sweatshirts and polo shirts. These are also covered in the official logos and insignia of the gyms and team.
When choosing what to wear, take a look around you at what others in your gym or team are wearing. It can give you a lot of good ideas about what to buy. Have a chat with your team members and you can have an idea of the expensive stuff to avoid which is not worth the money and what is the best to buy. Look on the internet, a lot of the makes of clothing are available online. But a final word: be careful what you wear. Just by wearing certain clothes you give a signal that you are ready for anything. First make sure that you are actually ready for anything!
