You must be remembering Takanori Gomi, don’t you? He was the last Lightweight Champion of the currently extinct PRIDE organization. Well, that young man is now an official member of the UFC roaster. Recently in a press meet, UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Gomi has agreed to a contract with UFC, arguably one of the largest and most popular MMA promotions in the world. The fighter is being nicknamed “The Fireball Kid” for his agility and speed inside the ring. He is one of world’s finest lightweight fighters.

Gomi lost two consecutive matches against Sergey Golyaev and Satoru Kitaoka which left him out of the most top 10 rankings. But he fought back and managed a couple of victories recently against Takashi Nakakura and Tony Hervey. Gomi is in professional circuit since 1998 and in a 2007 match against Nick Diaz drew him some serious attention in the USA. Gomi had lost the match by submission but later, Nevada State Athletic Commission overturned the result as Diaz tested positive for Marijuana in a post-match drug screen. But the fighter also earned respect of the fans defeating the likes of Marcus Aurelio, Ralph Gracie, Duane Ludwig, Mitsuhiro Ishida and many more. White didn’t reveal any information about Gomi’s debut for the organization; but this Japanese sensation is sure to amaze the fans.
