Jay Hieron is being Deprived of a Title Shot Yet Again
Do you believe in fate? Have you ever faced a situation when nothing is happening in the way you wanted them to? If yes, you can realize the situation Jay Hieron is going through these days. The latest of the blows came when his match against proposed opponent Nick Diaz for “Strikeforce: Miami” has been postponed. Hieron, nevertheless, stated that he will be happy to have a big-name replacement like Joe Riggs for the event. The organization has confirmed the Hieron-Riggs bout for the January 30th event at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Hieron signed an agreement with Strikeforce last year mainly to contest against Diaz for the title. But that is not likely to happen as of now. Hieron recently said in an interview that he believes “patience is a virtue” and it seems his patience is to undergo some serious test as he is now brought down from a title match against Diaz to an un-aired preliminary card of “Strikeforce: Miami”. This former IFL and UFC fighter came to combat sports to move on from his once-troubled life. Here too, a few setbacks were awaiting him; the financial collapse of his two former MMA homes, a loss against Georges St-Pierre on MMA’s biggest stage at a crucial juncture of his career and the cancellation of a title bout against Diaz in last August as the fellow UFC veteran skipped the mandatory pre-fight drug test. Now for reasons unknown, Hieron lost his shot for the title and Diaz will now face promotional newcomer Marius Zaromskis in the main event of the 30th January show. For now, Hieron, ever the optimist, prefers to look on the bright side and waits for his to come.
