Though it took him seven long years to master the craft, former UFC fighter and the semifinalist of “The Ultimate Fighter 6” Matt Arroyo has finally achieved his most coveted goal; he is now an official black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu. In a recent interview, Arroyo has confirmed to the media that he received the belt in a recent ceremony. This 27 year old fighter received the honor from Rob Kahn, the head of the Gracie Tampa camp based in Florida and his longtime instructor. Kahn is also a jiu jitsu black belt who earned his belt from MMA legend Royce Gracie, the master of grappling.

Arroyo did a great job during “The Ultimate Fighter 6” and had defeated Troy Mandaloniz and Dorian Price in the earlier rounds; but he was forced out of semifinals due to a rib injury. His impressive skills managed him a place in the octagon. He fought three times in the UFC but failed to do justice to his talent. In late 2007, he suffered a TKO loss against Matt Brown. Later in the early months of 2009, Arroyo suffered another defeat against Dan Cramer and was subsequently released by UFC. Since then, the fighter had put fighting on hold and worked on to improve is overall game. He has also started his own gym recently called “Gracie Tampa South” and serves as the lead instructor there.
