Some things are usually not so sure, but Mauricio Rua is definitely a force of nature to be reckoned with. Rua is known throughout the world as one of the top MMA fighters out there these days. He is one of the best. As countless of other MMA fighters beside him, and the many that have come before RUA, he has worked very hard and tirelessly as well to get where he is today. Rua also has a story to tell. He was born in the population rich city of Curitiba, Brazil on Nov. 1981. This is where Mauricio got his early start on developing his fighting skills and creating himself as a fighter. He started by training and learning the art of Brazilian Ju Jitsu at the very young of six. Then only a year later, at the age of seven, Rua began working on learning Muay Thai – which to some people’s standard is impressive at such a fresh age. Like many of the great fighters today and past, he received his training at an early point in his life and used his earlier lessons as a stepping stone onto what was to come next as he later became a fighter to be reckoned with. Apparently, fighting is in his blood, as it run’s in the family. His brothers, Marco Rua (his younger brother) and older brother Murilo are also in MMA fighters. Mauricio went on to train at the Chute Boxe academy where he continued his Muay Thai training. Later, he then went on to begin on his career as a professional fighter when he fought at the Meca World Vale Tudo in his native country of Brazil. On that day, Rua went against his opponent, Rafael Capoeira, and knocked Capoeira out within the first round after giving him a kick to the head. That marked the beginning of what was to come and what Mauricio Rua had to show the world as a force to look out for. He then went on to defeat a prior teammate Evangelista Santos (nickamed and also know “Cyborg”) at the Meca World Vale Tudo 9. Rua then continuing on and fighting in PRIDE and maintaining that inner fight and strength that has helped him to get where he is today, fought and beat the first five fighters that he had to go up against within the first round. At PRIDE Shockwave 06′, Mauricio beat a worthy opponent, Kazuhiro Nakamura and by the time he was finished with PRIDE, he was considered and revered as top lightweight in the whole world by a few major MMA associations and websites. Mauricio Rua then went on to sign a profitable deal and join the UFC where he has continued on with his career as a MMA fighter. During his UFC run, he substained a some injuring as a result of training and fighting. Rua, now standing at 6′ 1″ and 205 is nicknamed “Shogun”, a constant reminder of his fierceness and legacy as one of the best MMA fighters in our age.
