MMA SPARKRandy Couture is no doubt a viable staple in the world of mixed martial arts today. Couture has made his way from graduating school in Washington, to winning state championships, serving about six years in the Army, and working his way up later in life to become one of the top mixed martial artists there is. He was born in June 22, 1963 in Everett Washington. Randy, considered by a lot of people across the globe, is one of the best mma artists in the world. Like many before him, Couture fought his way to the top as he moved on to and during his career. He resided in Corvallis, Oregon during a lot of his career where he worked as a assistant wrestling coach for OSU (Oregon State University). Later, along with two other guys he started up a training camp in Oregon. Randy Couture was first spotted on the UFC scene in mid 1997 for UFC 13. Fresh and ready to show that he has what it takes, he was off to a good start. During this big heavyweight event, Randy Couture had to battle up against Tony Halme and Steve Graham Cracker, both of whom he beat and defeated. He won his first heavyweight title in 1997 after battling Maurice Smith. Couture left the UFC in 1998 and fought in Japan. He continued to fight on as his life changed and took him to new places. There is no doubt that he definitely impressed upon the people not only a great fighter but a force to be reckoned with and they wanted to see more. People, reputed MMA websites and associations alike seen something that they like and just knew that he would be back for more. No, Randy had much more to offer. Years later in 2000, he went back to the UFC to get back into the game and back into the fight. In November of that year, he fought against Kevin Randleman and regained the heavyweight title that has been waiting for him all of that time. During 2001, Randy defended his title two times, both against his opponent Pedro Rizzo, whom he had defeated. Later in 2002, Couture lost the title after a fight with Josh Barnett. That same year, Randy had tested positive for steroids and his title was in fact taken away as a result. After two back to back lost battles, he moved to a lower weight class in the light weight division and battled and defeated Chuck Lidell. He, along with BJ Penn, is the only one to have won championship titles in two different weight classes. After his third and last fight with Lidell, which he lost by knock out, he declared his retirement from mixed martial arts. He has made his mark on the MMA scene. Nowadays, Randy is ranked as one of the top MMA fighters in the world, an accomplishment made by few people. Couture, like many other MMA fighters has set a standard and paved the way for current and new fighters to come.
