No Vera vs. Nogueira in UFC 109: Jon Jones May Replace “Little Nog”

UFC authorities are forced yet again to make changes in a previously announced bout as the new member in the UFC roaster Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is forced to step out from his already scheduled fight against fellow Light Heavyweight Brandon Vera due to an ankle injury. The match was scheduled to take place in UFC 109 on February 6th, 2010. It is surely a bad news for the fans; but they may not be that disappointed when they know the potential replacement. MMASpark has come to know from reliable sources that UFC is planning to put Vera in a headline contest against Jon Jones in yet-to-be-announced UFC Fight Night 21 event on March 31st, 2010 in Denver.
Both Vera and Jones are seeking a victory to do some justice to their reputation. Jones recently lost a match against Matt Hamill as he was disqualified due to a series of illegal “12 to 6” elbow strikes. But before his unfortunate loss, “Bones” impressed many MMA observers with his power and skill. Vera, on the other hand, seeks a rebound from his recent highly contested match against MMA legend Randy Couture in the main event of last November’s “UFC 105: Couture vs. Vera”. The UFC authorities have not yet come to any conclusion on whether to go for a replacement contest in UFC 109 or not. Prior to Nogueira’s injury, the event was scheduled to have 11 bouts in total.
