Randy Couture

randy-couture-10Randy Duane Couture is nick-named as “The Natural” and “Captain America,” is a well known American MMA artist as well as an actor. Randy is a famous Greco-Roman wrestler and also an ex- collegiate wrestler. Randy is also the former champ of the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the heavyweight category. Randy is one of those rare UFC fighters who has held a championship title in both the heavyweight and the light heavyweight categories. He is only one of the two UFC fighters who have achieved this monumental task. Randy has held the Ultimate Fighting Championship with vigor and at the same time he is UFC’s only five-time champ. Randy has been inducted as a member in the UFC Hall of Fame and there are many including fans, spectators, UFC enthusiasts also consider him to be the most popular and most sought after fighter in the glorious history of MMA.

Along with fellow UFC performers Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture is also credited on greatly for having brought the MMA or the mixed martial arts trends into the mainstream American sports-Culture. Randy is an ex- Olympic wrestler alternate living in Corvallis later he also did serve as an assistant coach of wrestling and also served as a coach for both strength and conditioning for the Oregon State University. He later successfully established Team Quest along with the likes of Dan Henderson and Matt Lindland. This was a training camp meant for the fighters and was based out of Gresham. This camp was headed by Coach Robert Folis.

In the year 2005 Couture moved to Sin City. Later he opened his own chain of several gyms under the moniker of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. This chain of gyms also were located additional other places like in Washington, Vancouver, Wellington, Lombard, Florida, Illinois and other US states. He also most recently opened one in Missouri along with yet another one in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Ontario.

Randy is highly respected as well as recognized primarily as a clinch and ground-and-pound fighter and he uses his wrestling abilities extensively in order to execute several take downs. His wrestling skills also help him to reach the top position and needless to say this also successfully strikes his opponent to the bottom. Randy Couture has also successfully manifested a mix bag of skills in everything starting from boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to Muay Thai. He has also earned victories over two opponents after using different types of chokehold submissions. Couture holds the honor of being the only athlete in the entire history of UFC to have won a championship even after becoming a member of the Hall of Fame. Couture also happens to be the oldest title holder in the UFC.

Couture’s first ever-appearance in the UFC was on the 30th May in the year 1997 part. The event included two four-man tournaments: one was for the light heavyweight division while the other was for the heavyweight division. Randy Couture fought in the heavyweight category, won it after he completely defeated Tony Halme and Steven Graham Cracker. Couture’s first heavyweight title was via decision in match set in 1997 and was against Maurice Smith who was a kick boxer .He was soon stripped of his hard-fought title after he failed to come to the terms of the contract that was set by UFC and its parent Semaphore Entertainment Group. Couture returned to the UFC in 2000 and all throughout 2001, defended his heavyweight title twice against the heavyweight fighter, Pedro Rizzo who was from Brazil. Couture also won the Light heavyweight title later against his arch rival and number one contender Chuck Liddell and thus created history.
