Shields Claims Le is Afraid to Fight Him

It couldn’t have come in any better time. Just a few days ahead of the much hyped comeback of Cung Le, the new champ Jake Shields made a bold statement. He claimed that the only reason Le gave up fighting, joined acting and returned only after a mere month of vacating the title is just because Le is unwilling to fight against him. Shields defeated Jason “Mayhem” Miller last Saturday at the “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers” event and became the new champion.

As shields was asked the reason why he thinks so, he boldly stated that once a champ vacates the belt only to return to wrestling a month later can’t establish any better reason. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker always publicly stated that he supports Le’s decision of trying his hand in acting as Le is a capable actor; but these reasons don’t seem to satisfy Shields. Le, however, played low in this situation as he said “I’m actually honored that top fighters want to fight me”. He believes that it establish the fact that he created quite an impact on MMA. Le also said that after his fight with Scott Smith, he will definitely consider the chances of preparing himself for another matches. This indirectly means, Jake Shields may get his chance to prove the worth of his words.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said that he strongly believes if Le beats his opponent Scott Smith, he might well earn a title shot against Jake Shields. But he also stated that the last decision about the match can only be taken by Le. We need to wait for the answers. But one thing is for sure, things are heating up at Strikeforce and it can only get better from here.
