
The first successful title defense of Lyoto Machida, the UFC light heavyweight champion has earned him quite a huge amount. He defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 104 last Saturday in Los Angeles and gained a total of $200,000. Rua also took home $155,000 for his participation. These figures were released by The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) on Tuesday.
This match turned out to be a closely contested fight as Rua used a strategy of aggressive clinch work & body kicks. A lot of people thought the match could have gone in favor of Rua, but Machida ultimately gained the victory. Dana White, UFC President later announced that soon a re-match will take place between the two.
In the night’s first bout, Stefan Struve got $60,000 submission bonus and totaled his winnings to $74,000 for his tap out win against Chase Gormley who took $10,000 home.
One of the rising heavyweight stars of MMA, Cain Velasquez lived up to the expectations by his dominating second round knockout victory against Ben Rothwell banking $70,000 for the victory. Octagon debut of Rothwell earned him $50,000.
The fight between Pat Berry and Antoni Hardonk was emotionally charged and it had a second round finish. Barry’s performance was the highlight of the event and earned him $134,000. Additionally, he got “Knockout” & “Fight of the Night” bonuses as well. Hardonk ended up with making $16,000 for the fight.
The event had a total attendance of 14,892 for a gross gate of $1,913,093.62, according to the CSAC.
