UFC 106 Judging: A Big Disaster

It’s been quite a few times now that UFC shows became talk of the town for wrong reasons. The figure has now grown healthier as the judgment of the UFC officials came under some serious criticism after UFC 106. The fans and critics were quite upset immediately after Forrest Griffin was awarded a split-decision victory on Saturday’s “UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin II”. The situation got so worse that UFC President had to explain the situation to the media.

The Ortiz match was of three rounds and the score was 30-27 in favor of Griffin. The first round saw some tough fight and the Judges Marcos Rosales and Glenn Trowbridge awarded the first frame to Ortiz 10-9. White stated that Ortiz was a clear winner in the second round as well with two takedowns and elbow strikes. But only Trowbridge’s score-sheet agreed to Dana. Both Rosales and Lester Griffin, another judge in the panel awarded the round to Griffin. The final round, however, was clearly of Griffin’s. White said such results prove that scoring system needs some quick improvement or unless, things can turn worse. White said it’s Nevada State Athletic Commission and the Executive Director Keith Kizer who are to be questioned and the system should undergo some changes.

Fighters like Brock Lesnar or Bobby Lashley came to UFC because they always preferred true fights rather than the fake, got-up action drama. Fans also love a genuine fighting and the increasing popularity of UFC has proved it. So, if such decisions continue to happen, UFC will surely lose its credibility.
