The devastating fights that take place both inside and outside the cage as well as the ring all fall under the mixed martial arts umbrella. For UFC fighter David Mayeda the entire MMA somewhat now equates to responsibility as much as it means to be exciting. The phrase “human cockfighting” is still used for UFC and despite the support that it receives from the mainstream. There are several mainstream advertisers like Nike, Bud Light and even Microsoft. Mayeda coincidentally is the one who earlier had earned his PhD in American Studies from University of Hawaii has set out to explore the whole of MMA’s position in society in the year 2005 after he came to know about the sport through the reality show “The Ultimate Fighter”. He says that he was also affected by mixed martial arts as a fan and it potentially can have many differing effects on the society especially in terms of violence. He coincidentally has placed his academic point on the subject of the prevention of violence that is geared towards the youth. His subject matter is called “Fighting for Acceptance: Mixed Martial Artists and Violence in American Society” and this was published in the month of February of the year 2008. Mayeda somewhat took his theses from the medium of print to film after he was the one who directed, co-produced and at the same time narrated the entire documentary entitled “MMA 808: Inside Hawaii’s Fight Game,” that was later resultant from his book.
