Vitor Belfort wants to fight James Toney in the ring
UFC middleweight contender, Vitor Belfort has lobbied UFC president Dana White to allow him to cross over to the boxing world and shut James Toney up once and for all after Randy Couture gave him a lesson in MMA.
Via his Twitter account, Belfort wrote:
“Dana let me fight James Tony on 6 round boxe Mach I think I can catch him with my speed”
“Dana will be the 1 boxing match in UFC I promise he will fell my power and we will show the world the a UFC fighter can do better”
James Toney is the current IBA heavyweight champion, who lost his first (and only) MMA fight to Randy Couture at UFC 118, earning a tidy half a million in the process. Belfort has prior pro experience in the boxing ring, with a first round TKO over Josemario Neves in 2006 and he has desired to step back in the ring again since then, stating “I want to fight boxing – professional”, in 2008 to 15rounds.com
So although the Brazilian comes from a mostly wrestling background, he may well be one of the better fighters to “represent MMA” in the boxing ring.
