WEC has successfully sorted out their fighters’ injury problems and is finally ready with a shuffled match cards. The promotion authorities now must be breathing easy after being able to resolve the problems with just one week in hand before their return to Versus airwaves. It popped up as a serious trouble when recent injuries almost forced George Roop and Eddie Wineland a no-show as they were left without opponents. But WEC came up with a unique solution and paired them to fight against each other in the 10-fight card event of the evening on January 10th at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California.
Roop came under spotlight during his stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 8”. This young man from Arizona defeated Rolando Delgado and John Polakowski on his way to secure a place in the semi-finals. But finalist Phillipe Nover defeated him by submission. Last season was not a good one for Roop as he was troubled with an injured and badly swollen hand. Wineland, on the other hand, was the first ever Bantamweight Champion of the promotion. After defeating Manny Tapia recently, he must be looking forward to book a top spot in the Bantamweight division. This 10-fight card will showcase the following matches:
MAIN CARD
* Champ Jamie Varner vs. interim champ Benson Henderson (to unify lightweight title)
* Raphael Assuncao vs. Urijah Faber
* Dave Jansen vs. Kamal Shalorus
* Mike Brown vs. Anthony Morrison
