A July 29, 2010 MMA Spark post described Silva’s video diary showing him entering an operating room in Los Angeles for knee-ligament repair. The report said his doctors expected a four-month wait before proper training could resume.
That estimate concerned training, rather than a booked fight. The surviving post does not identify the ligament or establish the precise operation date; July 29 is the report’s publication date.
In the diary, Silva also expressed his ambition to become UFC champion. It was a statement about his long-term hopes while facing surgery, rather than an announcement of a title opportunity.
The layoff before his return
UFC’s June 30, 2011 preview connects the events. Silva had beaten Michael Bisping at UFC 110 in February 2010. Three broken ribs then took him out of the Akiyama fight scheduled for UFC 116 that July. Knee surgery followed, with UFC describing four months on the sidelines.
Leben replaced Silva against Akiyama. A year later, Leben became Silva’s own comeback opponent. That sequence explains why a report about a four-month recovery should not be read as a prediction that Silva would compete four months after surgery: his next recorded UFC appearance came in July 2011.
